Biography

My name is Amanda Ysen. I live at 404 Lincoln Street and have lived in Dubois for 6 years. I am the business manager at the school district and my husband is a bus driver and maintenance worker for the school district. We have 7 adult kids and 25 grandkids. I was born in Missouri and lived there for 25 years. Then I moved to northern Minnesota for the next 15 years of my life before moving to Dubois. We have been residents of Dubois for the past six years. As many transplants do, we came here on vacation and fell in love with Dubois and Wyoming.

When I am not working, I can be found hanging out in my yard gardening or camping in the mountains around us. I have several favorite spots that I call mine (as many of us do). I am an avid rock picker and natural light photographer.

Experience

I worked in the sexual violence movement for 18 years. Prior to moving to Dubois, I was the executive director for Support Within Reach for 9 years in Minnesota (I worked my first six years as a court advocate). Over my time working with this organization, I was a part of and led the organization through some very exciting and necessary changes, including two mergers, expansion into 5 nearby counties, spearheading the sexual exploitation movement of minors/adults in northern MN.

Education

I hold a general associate's degree with a minor in accounting from Itasca Community College, Grand Rapids, MN. I received my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Forensic Psychology from Kaplan University. I then recently completed my master’s degree in Public Administration from Capella University, St. Paul, MN.

Community Activities and Memberships

I have no other community activities and memberships in Dubois. But, as a result of my experience, I am very familiar with how governance works. I have a strong background in organizational development, community involvement, and accounting/grants management. I enjoy being a part of a team. I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in and will do my best to advocate for the hopes and wishes of Dubois residents.

Why I am Running

I am a Christian, a wife, mother, grandmother, and your neighbor. I genuinely care about the community of Dubois and the issues our residents are facing. For six years I have sat back watching our community grow. Our town council must continue to stay ahead of the growth so that we can provide a town with necessities such as housing, affordable housing, good-paying jobs that offer competitive benefits, etc. Providing important city services in a manner that is consistent with our town’s beliefs. And most importantly, protecting our Dubois and Wyoming way of life.

Top 3 Priorities

1) Learn what is important to Dubois residents.
2) Advocate on behalf of our residents in my role as City Council Member.
3) Do my part to protect our town and way of life.
