Conservation District

Responsibilities and Authority:

What these offices do: Improve soil health, water quality monitoring, irrigation system improvements, flood mitigation, range health, weed management, tree and seedling programs, well water testing, and conservation cost-share programs for landowners and farmers. It is the local partner for the Natural Resources Conservation Service federal programs.Members serve 4-year terms.

Why it matters: Conservation districts monitor water quality and flood risk, so their work can impact every resident. Conservation district boards are the local link to federal conservation funding, meaning their priorities directly determine which Fremont County landowners get access to cost-share dollars for grazing improvements, irrigation upgrades, and watershed restoration. They monitor water quality and flood risk; their work affects every resident, not just those who farm or ranch.
