Biography

I was born and raised in Laramie, WY. I graduated from the Laramie High School and from the University of Wyoming. I left Laramie three times and returned each time. I love Laramie, the community, and the people. My husband, Joe and I have been married for 14 years and have two beautiful and smart teenage daughters, Taylor, and Sammie. My mom is a local business owner as were my grandparents. I was raised to work hard and always be humble. I love spending time outdoors, reading, and taking pictures.

Experience

I was appointed by our County Commission as County Assessor in November. I began working in the Assessors office in 2009 and have held several different positions throughout the office. I believe experience is crucial to understanding all the different responsibilities of the office. I have held the required certification as a property appraiser since 2009, have attended several Wyoming Assessor Association meetings and am a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers.

Education

I graduated the University of Wyoming in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice. As mentioned previously I am certified by the State of Wyoming as a property tax appraiser. I have over 155 credit hours in mass appraisal and take continuing education hours annually to maintain this certification.

Community Activities and Memberships

I am a third-generation member of Soroptimist of Laramie, a local volunteer group who’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls. I have served on the board for several years and held multiple board positions including President. Soroptimist of Laramie is very near and dear to my heart not only because of the amazing work this group does for our community and the friendships I have developed but because it was something my grandmother, mother, and I did together.

Why I am Running

I am running for office because I believe the County Assessor is a very important job and experience is necessary. I have focused my professional career and worked towards this position since 2015. I understand the importance of every tax dollar collected and also understand I work for the taxpayer. I care for our citizens and understand the rules and regulations the County Assessor must follow when valuing property.

Top 3 Priorities

The most important priority is to assess property fairly and equitably according to State Statue and Wyoming Rules and Regulations. I also hope to build taxpayer trust, improve taxpayer education, and work with legislation to voice taxpayer concerns. I have an open-door policy and want taxpayers to feel comfortable coming in and asking questions. I plan to hold several educational opportunities for the public to learn how the Assessor does their job and why. I am currently working on rebuilding the County Assessor website to include a power point on how the process works. I am also working with legislators and other County Assessors to help our taxpayers with high inflation in property values.
