Biography

My name is Courtney Ney, I was born and raised in Wyoming and have lived in Carbon County since I was two. I graduated from Rawlins H.S. in 2007 and graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Geography, GIS and Natural Resources from the University of Wyoming in 2011. I met my husband, an Army Veteran in college after he returned from his 2nd tour in Iraq. We moved to Rawlins in 2011 after graduation and bought our first house. We got married in 2013, together we have two boys ages 7 and 3 and absolutely love the opportunities that they will have growing up in Carbon County as I did.

Experience

I spent my summers through College as a Cadastral Land Surveyor for the BLM where I gained an understanding of our Public Land System and legal land descriptions. Currently I work for Hofmann & Ramsey CPA's where I have worked for nearly 10 years. In 2020, I was named Carbon County's Best Receptionist! My work revolves around numbers and involves a keen attention to detail as well as the knowledge of taxes, payroll, bookkeeping, sales tax, budgets, balance sheets, sec. of state reports & more.

Why I am Running

I don't want to work FOR the County - I want to work WITH the County and the members of this Community.
Being the County Assessor is an important job. It requires work, dedication, trust, communication, and leadership. I believe the current Assessor office is managed well but lacks effective leadership. I will provide a positive environment for the employees in the assessor's office, those in other departments, and the people of Carbon County. By leading through equality and understanding I can provide the environment needed to allow the employees and Carbon County community to flourish.

Top 3 Priorities

My Priorities Include;
● Communication of Veteran Exemptions Availability - Reach out to more veterans to ensure they're getting the discount.
● Make Property Taxes Understandable to the Community- Numbers have to make sense and they should be understandable.
● Equality and Fairness in Property Tax Assessments - Property taxes need to be assessed fairly and be compatible with what's being assessed.
● Develop Working Relationships with Different Agencies - Teamwork is extremely important and utilizing the help and knowledge from other departments can be beneficial.
● Employee Appreciation & Appropriate Compensation - The county wouldn't function if it wasn't for hardworking employees, they need to be appreciated and compensated accordingly.
● Open Door & Communication Policy - I want to hear from you, I want the assessor's office to be accessible to all and for the public to be able to communicate their questions and concerns so we can address them head on.
