Biography

I grew up in an Air Force family and have lived in Japan, Italy, Germany and a dozen states, yet I have spent the past 42 years in Cheyenne and in the neighborhoods of House District 11. I know my state and city and district well, and I am proud of its diversity.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English, a Master's degree in teaching and another Master's degree in communications.
I have taught high school and have worked as a reporter in South Carolina and Wyoming.
I married here in 1984 and raised three children, staying at home to care for them and to use my time and talents in a variety of volunteer areas, notably La Leche League and music at St. Mary's Cathedral.
I joined the League of Women Voters to learn more about civic engagement and promote voter service and after several years became the Wyoming LWV lobbyist. My children were lucky to grow up in Cheyenne and are out pursuing their dreams in Colorado, New York and Cambodia.

Why I am Running

I am running for my first term in the Wyoming Legislature to represent House District 11. Coming off my two terms as an elected LCSD #1 Trustee, I am the best candidate to serve the people and issues of our district. My extensive knowledge and experience in education, good government, and healthcare, along with my proven ability to work with diverse voices, are needed NOW in the Legislature to solve real problems in our district, our county, and our state.

Top 3 Priorities

I have served as a Trustee on the Laramie County School District #1 Board for two terms and eight years, working to ensure our school children a quality education in safe and suitable facilities.
o LCSD1 and Wyoming need a state school construction process that renovates or replaces our old, overcrowded, inefficient buildings.
o LCSD1 and Wyoming need a school funding plan that is not victim to politicking.

Healthcare is essential for families, business, and a stable healthcare system. I have a broad understanding of health care issues and health insurance in Wyoming. The state Medicaid program is a lifeline for many in our state, and eligibility should be expanded to include uninsured adults, something a strong bipartisan majority of Wyoming’s voters agree with.
I want to:
o Make Medicaid coverage available to adults who currently can’t even apply.
o Also extend the time new moms are covered to 12 months – an investment in their physical and emotional health so both mothers and children will thrive.

The League of Women Voters of Wyoming has entrusted me to present its non-partisan, nonprofit agenda of good government issues to the Legislature for 25 years.
With a seat in the House:
o I will join other lawmakers in making sure our elections are secure while they assure Wyoming citizens access to the polls to select their leaders.
o I will work for government that is accountable, responsible, and responsive to the people.
