Trustee-School District #1 - Big Horn - (19017)
Biography
I was raised in Shoshoni. My father was a career teacher and my mother was the municipal judge. I studied computers at CWC, served a two-year service mission in Chile and then earned a BS from BYU in Construction Management. After college, I worked for a large construction firm based in Pasadena where I earned a MS from an architectural school in San Diego. After 8 years in California, we moved to Florida to start a new company and were there for 4 years. Ultimately, we could pick anywhere we wanted to live and quickly chose to get back to Wyoming. We fell in love with Big Horn, long before it was "cool" to work from home. We've been here almost 5 years. My wife is from Riverton and is a Special Education teacher at BHHS. We've been married 23 years with four amazing daughters: a sophomore at UW, junior, freshman, and 6th grader. Today, I design and develop industrial warehouses all over the country. I enjoy spending time with my family.

Why I am Running
I genuinely believe SCSD1 is the best school district in the state and I want to do my part to keep it that way. As a trustee, I feel I can have a positive impact on the performance of district students and ultimately the opportunities they have in life.
The district has a clear mission and ambitious goals. I support those objectives and understand the role of a trustee in accomplishing them. The state entrusts local districts with both the responsibility and autonomy to provide a high quality and equitable education for the students which reside in the district. I am running first and foremost to serve the students and families of our district.
Top 3 Priorities
1. Foster a work environment which recruits and retains the best administrators, staff, and teachers in the state. We’ve struggled recently, as most districts, with attrition. My top priority is to support teachers and staff in such a way that they have no desire to leave. Because of the state’s funding model, we are severely limited in what we can pay teachers and staff, it is significantly less than District 2 is able to pay. Therefore, we must provide other forms of support and compensation to retain the best personnel in the state.
2. Improve opportunities for our students. Our district does a phenomenal job of supporting students to take classes through our local community college. I’d like to see those programs expanded to more vocational opportunities as well such as construction, welding, and mechanics programs. Our schools have limited facilities, but we can support our students to take those classes at other venues.
3. If elected, I would ensure that our relationships with the county sheriff’s office are maintained. With neither community having a formal police department, we need to continue to rely on the sheriff’s office for a police presence on our campuses. The safety of our students cannot be compromised.
