Biography

I was born and raised in Rock Springs where I graduated high school. I then went on to get my degree at Utah State University where I met the love of my life, Harriet. She was a schoolteacher in Rock Springs for many years. We had two wonderful children, Craig and Penny. Craig lives in California and has a degree in engineering along with his wife Carol. They have 4 beautiful children, Kimberly, Michael, Tiffany, and Brandon, all of whom are college graduates. My daughter Penny got her degree in finance and married her husband, Jeff. They live in Tulsa, OK along with their two kids Rachel and Tyler who are also college graduates. In my spare time, I enjoy hunting, fishing, and anything that involves being outdoor in the great state of Wyoming. After graduating college, I spent the next 30 years in the mining industry, mining everything from trona and coal in Wyoming, aggregates in Texas, iron ore in South America and gold in Canada.

Experience

Thirty plus years in engineering, administration and executive management within the minerals industry – coal, iron, trona, and aggregates. I served as a Sweetwater County Commissioner for 14 years, 10 of which were spent serving as the chairman of the county commission.

Why I am Running

I originally got into politics to make a difference in our community by making development in the county run more effectively. If elected, I hope to do the same for the city of Rock Springs. My ultimate goal is to bring people and companies in to make Rock Springs a place that people want to come to build and live.

I am dedicated and have the time and resources to give this city the full-time attention that it needs and deserves.

Top 3 Priorities

ECONOMIC GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
I believe without a doubt that this is the most important issue in Rock Springs. Government should serve the public by supporting quality development and not hindering it or stopping it. The main way to achieve this is to shift the attitude to "how can we help and what can we do to make Rock Springs the best it can be?". There is no progress without change.
TRANSPARENCY
Transparency is huge, especially in Rock Springs. The residents of Rock Springs deserve to know what is going on behind the scenes. Council members should be involved in all decision making, Councilmembers are elected for a reason, and they are there to help and advocate for their Wards. If elected, I will work closely with council to get the job done. I will make sure that the residents know why each decision is made and what the goal moving forward is. Transparency is key. There is no "I" in "Team" and I plan on using my team to make Rock Springs better.
EDUCATION
Education is so important in our community. The kids are our future, so we have to do everything in our power to make sure that they are getting the best education possible and make sure that each decision made within our school district is what is best for the children in the long run. My wife, Harriet, was a schoolteacher for many years, so I have seen first-hand what works and what doesn't work within the system.
