I am Chris Katzl, a 30-year Uinta County resident, proud mother, and candidate for State Senate District 15, fighting for local liberty and fiscal accountability.
​Background & Military Legacy: Deep Wyoming roots trace back to my great-grandparents homesteading in Otto, where I spent summers working on the ranch in my youth. I come from a proud family of service: my father (Korean War), grandfather (wartime railroad conductor), uncle (Air Force Secret Service), and late husband (U.S. Navy).
​Civic Advocacy: Recognizing early digital media potential while working for UCSD #1, I founded Evanston Wyoming Happenings over 13 years ago. We have run this platform entirely on a volunteer basis, never charging the community a single cent to keep families informed. Today, I use this platform to lead crucial local fights—such as defeating the proposed sales tax last November and holding accountable an unwanted data center being forced on citizens, backed by a community poll showing 90% opposition

My diverse career includes work as a journalist right out of HS, working as a deaf interpreter at UVU, managing a Manhattan medical clinic, supervising a division at the University of Utah Marriott Library, and teaching in Alaska and Wyoming.
As an educator across multiple Wyoming districts, my positive intervention techniques helped my students achieve a 100% pass rate in their required Algebra math classes as well passing all of their core classes and the vast majority of their electives

I graduated from Pleasant Grove HS and attended Stevens-Henager Business College for accounting and business mgt. After serving an LDS Church mission, I attended Utah Valley University, earning an A.S. in Humanities and Journalism. Later, I married and had my son. After my second husband—who proudly served in the U.S. Navy—passed away, I navigated life as a single mother. Determined to build a strong future, I moved to Uinta County and eventually returned to BYU to earn my B.S. in Special Ed.

My local service included volunteering weekly at the Lord's Storehouse food bank with my young son, Sagebrush back stage, as a parent representative on the local Head Start board, and spending five years on the Human Resources Board—where I was specifically assigned to work with the Youth Home to ensure their needs were met by the department. Deeply invested in our youth, I served as a youth leader for three years, teaching church classes and leading young people in activities and youth camps

Why I Am Running: Inspired to step forward, I believe deeply in a principle rooted in my family’s proud military legacy: those of us who did not serve in uniform have a duty to ensure our country, state, and local communities remain places our veterans are truly proud to return to.

Government must never run in secrecy. Using Evanston Wyoming Happenings, I actively engage citizens and lead the fight to hold officials accountable—such as filing formal objections for Public Meetings Act violations that successfully forced the county to table the unwanted data center lease to give the citizens a real voice.
* Top Priority #2: Protecting Property & Financial Futures
As a young widow who fought a grueling 10-year battle against a federal agency that embezzled $53,000 from my escrow account, I have seen firsthand how powerful entities victimize everyday people. I will introduce the Wyoming Property Protection Act to ensure no agency or corporation can railroad our citizens or strip away their fundamental rights.
* Top Priority #3: The Wyoming Prosperity Trust & Infrastructure
Cheyenne has hoarded $13.8B in overcollected taxes over the last 7 years. My Wyoming Prosperity Trust proposal returns this money to the people without begging, permanently growing via a 10% reinvestment to end our reliance on mineral boom-and-bust cycles. Funds flow through a vital tiered system specifically repairing our neglected, faulty infrastructure: priority 1) Water & Emergency Services, 2) Roads & Bridges, and 3) Citizen's Choice (dividends, property tax relief, or local projects chosen by the people).
