My name is Don Julian, I have been a Wyoming resident my entire life. I grew up on a ranch in SW Wyoming, graduated from Kemmerer High School, and earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming. Since 2007, Sheridan has been home for my family and me, and we are proud to be part of this community.

My professional career has been centered around education. I have served as a teacher, coach, and activities/athletic director. Today, I continue to use those experiences to teach leadership, primarily working with educators and business leaders.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to serve on multiple boards in Sheridan County. Those experiences have taught me the importance of listening, accountability, and bringing people together to accomplish a common goal. I have worked with people across generations and with many different organizations throughout our county. I also bring significant experience in fundraising and organizational development.

I am running for this position, because I believe the health of a community depends, in large part, on how it cares for its citizens. Care, dignity, and respect for life should extend across every generation—from our youngest citizens to our oldest.
Sheridan County has a significant population of older adults, and that percentage continues to grow. I see this special district as an opportunity to help improve the quality of life for seniors and to strengthen the organizations already working to serve them.

The voters of Sheridan County approved this initiative, and I am excited about the opportunity to help turn that vote into something meaningful for our community.

My first priority would be to help establish a strong foundation for this new district. We will need to develop bylaws, policies and procedures, establish sound financial systems, and set up a responsible process for receiving and granting funds. We won’t have to reinvent the wheel in this process because there are multiple senior special districts around the state that we can learn from.

Once that foundation is in place, I believe the board should meet with and listen to organizations and agencies that are already serving seniors in Sheridan County to understand where the greatest needs are. Those needs could include nutrition, transportation, dementia services, in-home health support, and other needs that qualify for funding through this district.
I believe our responsibility will be to identify those needs, establish priorities, and make sure the available resources are directed where they can have the greatest impact.

The seniors in our community have contributed to building the schools, businesses, families, and traditions that make Sheridan County such a special place.They deserve our respect, our gratitude, and our commitment.
