Why I am Running
Western gave me a wonderful career and the opportunity to continue my education and interact with students and their families in a very positive way. I recognize that higher education, like so many other areas in our country today, is facing challenges and decisions made today will have long-term impact. It is so important to help local residents understand the importance of additional education, whether that be through a college, a technical training program, or on-the-job training. Education allows people to have a choice in their future. It is also important for colleges and universities to be accountable for the programs and services offered and responsible in the use of resources.
I think that having someone with higher education background on the Board helps to provide depth to decision-making and brings an added element of knowledge and understanding to the process. I hope to be able to provide that perspective and to share some of my experience in a positive way. My direct knowledge of Western, involvement at the State level on the Community College Commission, and work through the Higher Learning Commission gives me a unique understanding of the scope of higher education.
I have been away long enough that I won't be getting in the weeds, have no agenda except to help, and want to continue to learn from our great community college system.
