Megan Degenfelder (Republican)
Governor - - (106)
Biography
Growing up in an agriculture and oil and gas family, I learned the value of hard work, building
something for the next generation, and not waiting around for the government to solve our
problems. A product of Wyoming public schools and the University of Wyoming, I spent nearly a
decade working in the coal and oil and gas industries, specifically in regulatory and government
affairs, to lessen regulatory burdens on industry and produce more energy. Elected State
Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2022, I implemented major reform for parental rights,
career and technical education, school choice, civics and literacy. I have a proven track record
of delivering on conservative causes which is why I have the endorsement of President Trump
and Harriet Hageman. I’m an outdoorswoman, the UW women’s rugby coach and a cancer
survivor. I’m not interested in the status quo. Wyoming needs bold, unapologetic leadership so
that it doesn’t just survive, it sets the bar for the rest of the country
Experience
Elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2022, I have implemented major reform for
parental rights, career and technical education, school choice, civics education and literacy.
Before that, I spent nearly a decade working in the coal and oil and gas industries, specifically in
regulatory and government affairs to lessen regulatory burdens on industry and produce more
energy. My experience spans the mineral industry, education and workforce development, and
public service.
Education
I am a proud product of Wyoming public schools and graduate of the University of Wyoming. I
earned a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Political Science, was student body president, captain
of the rugby team, member of College Republicans, and selected as top graduating female
student. I earned a Masters in Economics from the University of International Business and
Economics in Beijing, China. My thesis focused on the elasticity of demand for US coal and
natural gas exports.
Community Activities and Memberships
I have spent my life serving on local non-profit boards and volunteering. I am the head coach of
the University of Wyoming Women’s Rugby Team, a lector reader and volunteer at my church,
active in dog rescue and fostering, and have served on the Board of the Wyoming Women’s
Antelope Hunt and Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom. I was part of the first all-women’s
team at the One Shot Antelope Hunt and have won multiple shooting competitions at the
Cheyenne Trap and Skeet Club.
Why I am Running
I am running for Governor because I love Wyoming, and I believe our way of life is worth fighting
for.
I was raised in a Wyoming ranching family that taught me faith, freedom, personal responsibility,
hard work, and service. Those are the values that built this state, and they are the values I will
defend as Governor.
Wyoming families are being squeezed by rising costs, especially property taxes, housing,
groceries, insurance, and energy. At the same time, our coal, oil and gas, mining, agriculture,
and tourism industries are under attack from federal overreach and radical environmentalists.
Parents are worried about what their children are being taught and whether their kids will have
the opportunity to build a future here at home.
I am not running to preserve the status quo; I’m running to challenge it. I am running to lead, to
fight, and to make sure Wyoming remains a place where families can afford to live, businesses
can grow, children are protected, parents are respected, and our constitutional rights, born and
unborn, are never negotiable.
I don’t just talk about being conservative, I have actually delivered meaningful wins for the
issues we care about – and I’m the only candidate for governor with that proven record. This is
why I’ve been endorsed by President Donald J. Trump and Congresswoman Harriet Hageman.
I’m not part of the political establishment. I’m someone who will be an unapologetic champion
for our conservative Wyoming values.
Top 3 Priorities
1.) Cost of living & affordability: I will fight for real property tax relief, restrained state
spending, focusing on baseline infrastructure to attract development and policies that
help families keep more of what they earn. I will eliminate duplicative programs and
bureaucracy, and cut administrative overhead and prioritize services like education,
safety, roads, and essential infrastructure. I will focus on housing through deregulating
and prioritizing water/sewer and curb/gutter infrastructure. And I will create real solutions
for healthcare access and cost, from workforce preparation to regional coordination to
telehealth.
2.) Unleash the Wyoming economy: This starts with unleashing energy dominance
producing more Wyoming energy. As the only candidate in the race with experience in
the industry and a comprehensive energy plan in place, I can get it done. Because of the
tax structure in Wyoming, if the mineral industry does well, the rest of our industries do
well, and this allows us to focus on the next generation of Wyoming ranchers and a
growing tourism industry.
3.) Education: I will continue my work as Superintendent to focus on the basics- reading,
math, civics, and career preparation– not political agendas. I will protect parental rights
and expand opportunities for students through career and technical education and
work-based learning, as well as create greater alignment for higher education. We must
ensure that young people can build lives and careers here in Wy
