Qwenton Eagle Oviatt is a 47 year old long time WY resident. A graduate of LVHS and UW, he has earned bachelors degrees in Psychology and Environment & Natural Resources. As an Eagle Scout, and certified mediator Qwenton believes in empathy, collaboration and taking care of family and neighbors. He brings a wide range of real world experiences to his campaign, and genuinely wishes to implement the will of Wyomingites into the policies of the Secretary of State. Qwenton is running for SOS because WY needs practical, common sense leadership from someone who has lived the challenges facing our state. He is not just another career politician. He wants to prioritize boosting voter turnout and engagement. If we make elections easier and more accessible while maintaining security, then the voice of the people is truly heard. With his background in logistics, mediation, and problem solving, Oviatt is ready to deliver results to WY voters!
Experience
I bring real world experience that career politicians simply don't have. I've worked in Wyoming's oil fields, completed multiple deployments in Antarctica supporting NSF research and built small businesses in construction, painting, and manufacturing with my dad. As a certified mediator and current academic advisor at CWC, I've honed skills in collaboration, problem solving, and connecting with young people. This background gives me practical insight into what is needed in the SOS office.
Education
A graduate of LVHS, UW, and NOLS, as well as an NSF contractor in Antarctica, I've developed leadership, teamwork, and problem solving skills in various challenging environments. As an Eagle Scout and certified mediator through USDA, I've built strong foundations in ethics, collaboration, and practical dispute resolution. These experiences, combined with hands on work in oilfields, Antarctic deployments, and academic advising have equipped me with the skill needed to serve effectively.
Community Activities and Memberships
Through the Scouting program, I completed significant service projects and continue to value that commitment to leadership and helping others. I've worked with conservation groups, serve as an academic advisor at Central Wyoming College developing entrepreneurship boot camps, and am a certified mediator. I am a long time caregiver for my mother with MS and a color commentator for Fremont County Roller Derby.
I enjoy spending as much time recreating with my wife in WY's great outdoors.
Why I am Running
I am running for Wyoming Secretary of State because I believe my neighbors and the people of Wyoming deserve better than the career politicians and divisiveness that plague our party. It's time to heal the rifts in the Wyoming Republican Party. We should not be attacking fellow republican and calling good conservatives RINOs.
For too long, we've had the same type of people rotating through these offices. I am not one of them. Wyoming is essentially one big small town. It should not be hard to have open communication with each other and turn the will of the people into public policy. Unfortunately, that has not been happening. I want to change that.
I grew up in Wyoming, and have lived in Hudson, Lander, and Laramie. I had political idols in my youth like Mike Enzi and Alan Simpson. They worked hard across the aisle to bring people together through real collaboration. Wyoming desperately needs more leaders like them! I believe with my experience and background in mediation that this is something I can be successful at.
We need practical, common sense leadership from someone who has actually lived a real Wyoming life. That is what I offer and what I intend to do. Our party is strongest when we unite around our shared values instead of fighting amongst ourselves.
Top 3 Priorities
My top 3 priorities of the office are simple and focused. 1st I will work to significantly increase voter turnout and engagement. Wyoming has a serious voter turnout problem and we need to make elections easer for people, not harder, while maintaining election security.
Second, I will clean up our business registration system. Criminals and scammers are exploiting commercial registered agents to create fraudulent companies. I will implement top tier screening software and create a small enforcement team to stop the fraud before it starts.
Third, I will rebuild trust and partnership with our county clerks. they have asked for better training and more uniformity across the state. I will do both by working collaboratively with them instead of dictating from Cheyenne.
I believe these three priorities along with healing the divides in the party will make a real difference for the people of Wyoming.
