Robert Short (Republican)
Secretary of State - - (107)
Biography
I am an entrepreneur, local businessman, and three-term Converse County Commissioner. I grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming, where my parents instilled the values of hard work, integrity, and loyalty.
After working in power line construction and uranium mining, I studied electrical engineering and computer science, graduating at the top of my class. I built a career in technology that took me around the world, working for both Fortune 500 companies and small startups. In 2005, I returned with my family to Douglas and started a small business with my wife and best friend, Janella.
Over the past 21 years, our initial business multiplied into many spanning energy, agriculture, retail, and tourism—creating more than 120 jobs in Converse County. My experience building companies, creating opportunity, and diversifying the local economy shapes my long-term vision for Wyoming’s future. I am proud to be from Wyoming, working for Wyoming.

Why I am Running
Secretary of State must fulfill the constitutionally defined obligations, enforce statutes, and help the people of Wyoming feel confident that they are being served honestly. This office is responsible for a multitude of tasks, not the least of which is to serve on boards that manage assets for the state. Approaching decision making with objective scrutiny is critical to making decisions that are free from bias, not influenced by special interests, and are driven by data that support good outcomes. As your Secretary of State, I am directed to protect your interests without regard to influences that are outside of our state and I am required to put the people first.
My experience as a County Commissioner, successful businessman, tireless champion for Wyoming, excellent collaborator, fearless defender of our rights and unwavering commitment to honesty, integrity and transparency drives my motivation to serve. I built trust across all 23 counties as a Commissioner. My work in our legacy industries gives me experiences that will translate to better decision-making for state boards; my service to my community is driven by my desire to leave a Wyoming where our great-great grandchildren will thrive. I can say without hesitation that my life in Wyoming has been rooted in Wyoming values. I will never falter when it comes to serving Wyoming and my history proves it.
Top 3 Priorities
1. As Secretary of State, I will work to stop those who take advantage of our privacy laws to unfairly compete, create sham corporations, and cause Wyoming businesses to suffer. As a businessman, I have seen firsthand the challenges we face in Wyoming from these bad actors. I will use the full range of the authority of the office to root out bad actors and protect Wyoming citizens and businesses. A healthy business environment provides the foundation for our young people to find work, create businesses of their own, and chart a path toward financial stability and the ability to prosper in Wyoming.
2. The security of Wyoming’s elections is critical, and you can count on my commitment to ensuring they are conducted in a fair, honest, and accurate manner. As a former election judge, I have witnessed the hard work and dedication from the county clerks, their staff, and volunteers who run our elections. I am resolute in my commitment to overseeing Wyoming’s elections with great integrity.
3. Protecting Wyoming citizens from fraudulent investment schemes like cryptocurrency scams, ensuring the firms and individuals working in Wyoming uphold our rules and state statutes, and educating our people about financial security and safety is a priority. When rules are broken or enforced unfairly, trust is lost, families are hurt, and we all suffer. I will tirelessly commit to ensuring compliance, because in Wyoming, we believe in being tough but fair.
